History: The Vermont Mariners lasted only one season in Burlington, Vermont. The Vermont Mariners were a Double-A affiliate team of the Seattle Mariners, and in their lone season in 1988 they featured Omar Vizquel and an 18 year-old Ken Griffey Jr. Prior to the 1988 season the team had been an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds known as the Vermont Reds from 1984 to 1987. Before that the team had existed as the Lynn Sailors based in Lynn Massachusetts, where they were a Mariners affiliate from 1980 to 1982, and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1983. The Vermont Mariners finished the 1988 season in second place with a record of 79-60. They moved to Canton, Ohio and became the Canton-Akron Indians, an affiliate of Cleveland the following year.
