History: The Princeton Tigers Football team of the 1920s compiled an overall record of 48-23-10 under the tutelage of Head Coach Bill Roper. This included two undefeated National Championship seasons in 1920 and 1922 (Roper also led the Tigers to National titles in 1906 and 1911). Roper's legacy lives on through the annual William Winston Roper Trophy award. This award is considered the highest honor for male athletes at the University. PRINCETON FUN FACTS: 1) On November 6th, 1869, The Princeton Tigers (The College of New Jersey at the time) were participants in the first ever intercollegiate football game versus Rutgers College (Rutgers University today). Rutgers won the contest with Princeton winning the rematch just a week later. 2) MORE FIRSTS: Baseball was the first varsity sport at Princeton and the baseball tigers also appeared in the first nationally televised college baseball game versus Columbia in 1939.
